Welcome to day 3 of the Fall Getaway Giveaway! Every day this week I'll have a different hand dyed package of goodies for you. Be sure to enter every day. Winners will be announced October 26.
Today's prize package is a 2 yard piece of this "rogue" black gradient. Occasionally I dye a gradient and the dye travels in an "unacceptable" way on me. It usually happens only in part of the gradient. I like for my gradients to be somewhat consistent so when I get a rogue piece I cut it off a don't sell it. It's good for me because it helps enhance my own stash! This 2 yard piece is one of my rogue gradients that I want to share with one of you. Enter below to be included in the drawing for today's prize.
Welcome to the second day of the Fall Getaway Giveaway! Every day this week I'll have a different hand dyed package of goodies for you. Be sure to enter every day. Winners will be announced October 26.
Today's prize package are leftover mini mandala blocks from my Groovy quilt. I don't see these patterns as strong enough to be blocks on their own but you can fussy cut some very cool sections our of them to use in any project. Enter below to be included in the drawing for today's prize.
Welcome to Fall Getaway Giveaway week! Every day this week I'll have a different hand dyed package of goodies for you. Be sure to enter every day. Winners will be announced October 26.
Today's prize package is an envelope stuffed full of various scraps. I'm starting with these chunks and strips that are from the quilt that I started last weekend. Enter below to be included in the drawing for today's prize. This week's inspiration comes from Erica Prince. Erica used a variety of sShibori and Stash Pack fabrics for the tock elements of her beautiful art quilt.
For sharing, Erica received a 20% coupon for the shop that's good for 3 months! If you have made anything with my hand dyed fabric I hope you will consider sharing it in the Customer Gallery. The only rule is that projects have to be complete. It doesn't have to be made totally from hand dyed fabric, just include a recognizable amount. Actually it was the same word three times....loudly. Then I laughed. After inspecting the quilt for anything that needed to be fixed, I removed the zippers and within 30 seconds found this! Seriously, how did I quilt 4 blocks around this diamond (because the diamonds were what I quilted first) and not see that I had an incomplete block? Back to the quilting frame. I was able to roll the quilt on the back bar and use the PVC clamps on the front to hold it steady enough to get that section quilted. I knew there was a reason I hadn't loaded another quilt yet! Now it's trimmed and the binding is ready. I'll need to clear off the Summer Sunset blocks from my sewing table so I can stitch this 5 miles of binding. But that will wait until we get back from hiking. The next crochet project is this gingham blanket pattern from Daisy Farm Crafts. I did this first swatch using the hook sizes recommended in the pattern but I don't think it's going to work. This swatch feels like it would make a better rug than blanket. So bought a "L" hook yesterday to try another swatch and see if I like it better. I've got the new swatch started but I can't quite tell yet.
Today I'll get next week's giveaway posts scheduled and maybe get another quilt loaded or maybe make some more progress on the Spirograph. Tomorrow will be food prep for the trip and we leave Sunday morning. By Monday night I might be regretting the trip all together after a 10 mile hike! Enjoy the giveaway posts while I'm away and I'll see you in 10 days with all the winners! First, thank you all for your lovely comments yesterday on Kim's quilt. I am really pleased with how it looks on the bed. I didn't like it all that much on the frame but I like it a lot better now. Maybe this afternoon I can get it trimmed. Last night I finally finished this little crochet project. I started it while we were on vacation in August and worked on it a little at a time in the evenings. The main body is shell stitch and I used 2 balls of Lion Brand Mandala in the color Gnome. If I had started it out wider I would not have needed to do the border. I like to do these Mandala blankets with a color meeting in the middle and gradating out to the edges. The center should have been yellow/gold/orange/red/orange/gold/yellow. But when I got to the first yellow I realized that the blanket was going to be too narrow (or too long depending on your perspective). So I made the center yellow and wound off the other colors to use on a border. I think it worked out fairly well. Next up I will start on a gingham blanket from Daisy Farm Crafts. I'll share more after I get started. I've also made a little progress on my test floor cloth. One side was painted with flat paint and the other was painted with semi-gloss. The semi-gloss (this side) worked much better so now I know what kind of paint to buy for the "real" ones. this one will be a real one too. I'm going to keep drawing on it and make it into a rug too. I'll gift it to someone. I think it's going to be pretty cool!
Today I have a clay shooting lesson and then will run some errands. This afternoon I need to get the prize packs together for next week's drawings and get Kim's quilt trimmed and ready for binding. Well, here it is off the frame and spread over a queen size bed. It's really, really big! I'm please with the way it looks on the bed. Kim says that if it's too big for her bed she will buy a new bed. She would actually do that. At this point the zippers are still attached in case I need to do any repairs. Inspecting the stitching on the back was not easy! I liked this backing when I bought it but I didn't like it much yesterday. So far the only thing I've discovered is this little pleat which will stay exactly where it is. I don't think I'd ever be able to find it again! Next I'll trim it and start the binding. I'll hand stitch the binding so that might take MONTHS. Next up for quilting is something simple. This is a quilt that Mom made to give someone who works in her apartment building. It's going to get an easy pantograph. After that I have over 14 veterans quilt tops needing quilting! Don't forget to check in every day next week for daily giveaways!
Before we get to fabric I have a couple of announcements. The shop will be open next week but there will be no orders shipped October 19 - 23. All orders will be shipped October 24. While I'm away from the shop, hopefully enjoying some autumn foliage, I'm going to leave my blog readers with a week of giveaway posts! Be sure to check in on the blog ever day next week and enter to win one of the 6 prize packages. Fabric of the WeekMy plan for this week was to have 2 great new autumnal Stash Packs for you but I rejected one fabric in each so these will wait until I get the fabrics just right. But I can pivot! Instead I'm putting all Stars fabrics on sale this week. You can find all sorts of treasures there and many are in some beautiful autumnal colors and there are some beautiful blue skies for backgrounds. Stars are one yard cuts of one-of-a-kind colors. If you fall in love with one, get it. They can't be reproduced! Use coupon code AUTUMN at checkout to get 20% off. Autumn back in stockHere are the beautiful Autumn-inspired fabrics that are back in stock this week. If you are looking for fabrics that would be great for leaf blocks or appliques you need look no further than these. Or you can use them as a background or feature elements of art quilts as Leslie McNeil and Patricia Caldwell did in these quilts.
It was so nice to be able to sew with my quilt club again. Our group is sponsored by Hanover Parks and Rec so they are just now opening up the facilities for limited use. They were even there to take our temperatures on arrival. I'm not sure how helpful that is because my temp was 83 on Saturday. It didn't really matter. They had us set up 6 feet apart and there were only 7 of us there with a capacity of 15. I spent mot of my time over the 2 days cutting out blocks. You can see that I was a little obsessive compulsive about organizing my workspace. I'm thinking of making a king size quilt as a gift for a friend. For that I need 162 blocks. This is 51 blocks cut out and ready for assembly next month. BI started by making these 18 just to see if I'd like it. You can see here how I'm using the mini gradient effect in the waste fabrics in my windows. I'm using pretty much every green in my stash and I'm happy with how it's looking so far. With these I have 69 blocks at least to the cut out stage. I think you can figure out here that piecing is a breeze. I do try to keep the 3 waste fabric pieces aligned properly. This pattern is called Club Noir and is in the book Color Quilts For Fabric Lovers by Amy Walsh and Janine Burke. This quilt is the cover quilt on the book. This will be the 4th quilt that I've made from this book! The patterns are just great for scrappy quilts where the scrap fabric has some sort of theme. I'll give my version of Club Noir a different name because that name doesn't fit this fabric. My name will have "green" in it in some way. We all stayed at the center as late as possible. No one wanted to leave! Mom stayed with me Friday night so it was a good opportunity for my youngest brother, SIL, niece and new boyfriend (!) to visit. Mom can't have visitors at her apartment yet unless she needs some sort of medical or personal care help. We though we might go over with a enema one day and tell the guard that Grandma is stopped up and needs help. Wouldn't that be hilarious? Don't worry, we would probably not to that. New boyfriend received approval. In between all that activity I finished quilting Kim's Garden! This is the last block. I need to inspect the back to make sure I don't need to fix anything and then I can get on with binding. Right now it's spread over the guest bed and it's HUGE. I'll get a photo when the rain stops and I have some decent natural light.
I'm going to have to switch gears a bit because I realized that I need to get started on Christmas postcards. It's time for some design work followed by some factory work around here. This week's inspiration is from Patricia Caldwell. She created this piece with a Star fabric and the Sunset Stash Pack. It was inspired by large granite rock formations with lots of texture and cracks on the rock and with light streaming into the larger cracks where plant life takes hold and thrives.
For sharing, Patricia received a 20% coupon for the shop that's good for 3 months! If you have made anything with my hand dyed fabric I hope you will consider sharing it in the Customer Gallery. The only rule is that projects have to be complete. It doesn't have to be made totally from hand dyed fabric, just include a recognizable amount. |
