I've been a member of Country School Quilters in Montpelier, VA since I moved here 21 years ago. I love this group and am so happy that I found them. We don't have quilt police but we have a lot of quilt mentors who generously share everything they know. For such a small "village" we have a very strong group of about 35 members and skill levels from beginner to award winners. We have traditional quiters, scrap quilters, art quilters and everything in between. Every other year we have a quilt show next door to where we meet at the Montpelier Center for the Arts. MCA was originally a school and, coincidentally, my college roommate's mother was the last principal before this school was shuttered. Now it a beautiful community space. We meet next door in what used to be the cafeteria for the school. It's an old facility but is well maintained by the Hanover County Parks and Rec Department. They sponsor us so we get to meet there free and it's where we have our monthly 2-day sewing "retreats". That's where I was this weekend working on my Paula Nadelstern quilt. I was able to get all of the cat blocks done and am read to sash and border it. Back to the quilt show. A week or so ago we hung our show for this year and I took photos of all of the quilts for you to see. If you are in the Richmond area you can come check it out in person through October 3. For everyone else, here's a slide show for you to enjoy. |
About Vicki
I'm Vicki Welsh and I've been making things as long as I can remember. I used to be a garment maker but transitioned to quilts about 20 years ago. Currently I'm into fabric dyeing, quilting, Zentangle, fabric postcards, fused glass and mosaic. I document my adventures here. Categories
