Yesterday was kind of a chore day. First I had to deal with the weeds on the driveway. It needs treatment at least 3 times a year. Then I decided to sort through a big donation to our quilt club. If you belong to a quilt group I'm sure you are experiencing the same situation where you re the recipient of multiple donations a year from retired quilters. Sadly, it's getting quite frequent for us. Conveniently, we have an annual trash-to-treasure fundraiser in October so this donation was timely. I won't be at that meeting so I wanted to get all the stuff sorted and tagged for the auction. This woman had so many packs of hand sewing needles! She, like me, had lots of stuff. There's a separate pile for the thrift store. I also got the blocks I sewed on vacation cut and finger pressed. They are ready to start sewing into blocks. I don't know how quickly I'll make progress on that because the Paula fabrics arrive tomorrow and making the sample quilt for her has to be my quilting priority. This weekend, during football games, I will start 2 new crochet projects. One will be another baby quilt for my new Great Niece and the other will be another of teh big "dude" blankets. This one will be for Chris' best friend.
This afternoon I head to Mom's to help put up her design wall. She will be ready to start sewing again!

Nice that your Mom is settled in enough to start sewing

Yes, I think all the guilds are experiencing the loss of elderly quilters. But on the upside we had 43 NEW members last year!! A valued member of our guild, and former president, died quite quickly and had A LOT of UFOs. Our current president packaged everything up and proposed a challenge that we take the UFOs, finish them and display at our December Social, called the President's Challenge. I took 2 pkgs and quickly finished them. Such a great idea. I however, ahem, do not have any UFOs. I also, DO NOT try to get rid of scraps because I just might need that bit of purple for an art quilt. This scrap divesting trend is very perplexing to me. But then I am not a traditional quilter, so what do I know. Also am very interested in your "this year Paula" quilt. I have a Paula collection and take it out occasionally and pet it but never come up with a pattern that makes me want to CUT IT!!

I have so much stuff here that I need to go through I was thinking I need to start to put some of this stuff in small boxes and sell to the person that offers to buy it first on my blog - then at least I would have room for new stuff!!

Can you come over and take care of my weeds? LOL, boy does my flower bed need it! Looks like a lot of good stuff for your guild sale.

The first thing that caught my attention is the clock in the background that says "40" - Huh?

Hi, Vicki. I enjoy your blog and dyed fabrics. I am on the lookout for Olfa 28mm rotary cutters, the old style with the nut on the back to release the blade. They've changed the style on the 28mm cutters now to a quick release, which I don't care for. Should you come across any in your donations, I would gladly pay to get my hands on them. Thank you in advance.

I helped clean out one guild members UFOs after her passing. It motivated me to resolve to not have more than 2-3 quilt tops going at one time.

It is amazing all the sewing stuff we accumulate in our lifetimes. I have a lot of hand needles too - always trying to find good ones that are the right size. My favorite are the ones that are vintage that come in those needle holders that fold in half with pictures on them. They are some of the best needles! That variegated yarn is pretty. It will be interesting to see it made into manly man blankets.
