Before we get into the newsletter I have a little summer announcement that I'll remind you of over the next few weeks. I will be away the entire month of August so I will not be doing any dyeing or shipping that month. If you need fabric be sure to get it in July. If you need anything custom dyed I will need to have your order by July 12. New gradient!I've never been to Bali but I know enough people who have been there to know that it's a special place. My problem with Bali is the getting there. I just can't bear the idea of that much time on a plane. I'm content to admire it from afar while attending beautiful beaches closer to home. I came up with this gradient while perusing photos in the interwebs and happened upon a beach shot with this sort of color gradient. It was a photo of a beach in Bali. Here it is translated in fabric. I find it very soothing. You can find it here in the shop. Back in StockTwo other gradients are back in stock this week, including Forest Canopy that I got right this time! Also back in stock this week are some of the Color Wheel fabrics. The Color Wheel fabrics are my "basics" fabrics are are always 20% off. There are 10 fabrics representing the color wheel and they are available in dark medium and light. The Color Wheel dark set is available in half yard, fat quarter and fat eighths. Medium and Light versions are available in fat eight packs. Click on any of the images to check them all out. Fabric of the WeekThe fabric of the week this week is Coral Atoll gradient. It's 20% off through Sunday.
Before vacation I introduced the new Sunshine and Caribbean Stash Packs. This week I'm added in the sun! The Jacaranda Stash Pack is in beautiful shades of purple. Each Stash Pack has 10 fat eighths of fabrics in a variety of color combinations and color texture. I love them for scrappy style quilts but I think most people use them for elements in art quilts. You can use them any way you want! Each Stash Pack has 5 streaky fabrics and 5 mottled fabrics. Here are larger views of 6 of the fabrics. There are so many possibilities for fussy cutting applique or landscape elements. Fabric of the WeekIt's a quick post this week. I spent most of my dyeing time last week catching up on custom orders so all I have new is the beautiful purple Stash Pack and I have a coordinating fabric of the week! This week the Fabric of the Week is the Mood Gradient. It makes me think of a late night sky with a full moon. This week it's 20% off through Sunday.
Well, it will be next week anyway! I get very excited for my family beach week every year. It's great to spend time with my brothers and their families and it's always wonderful to kick off summer with a beach experience. I clearly had it on my mind in the dye studio last week as evidenced by today's fabrics. I also have a beach week for you. Read below for details. Because I'll be away there will be no orders shipped next week. Any orders after May 20 will be shipped May 31. New Stash PackA couple of weeks ago I dyed "the ocean" with the new Caribbean Stash Pack. This week I'm added in the sun! The Sunshine Stash Pack is 100% sun inspired. Gradients Back In StockThere are 4 Gradients back in stock this week and several of them would make great water or sky elements. Fabric of the WeekThe fabric of the week this week is a dye mistake! This was supposed to be Forest Canopy but I dyed that middle orange too dark. In my opinion, it still looks great. It makes me think of a forest fire. But it's not "right" so you can pick this one up for 25% off while it's still around. This one won't be coming back. Beach Week GiveawayWhile I'm away next week I'm leaving behind a daily giveaway for you to enter. There are 6 in all, one each day Monday through Saturday. I'm really excited about the prizes and I hope you will be too!
Today's fabric offerings celebrate blue! I don't like the phrase "I've got the blues". I don't think of blue as sad. I think of it as peaceful, relaxing and expansive. Looking at a bright sky or vast ocean makes me stop , take a deep cleansing breath and enjoy the moment. I hope that's the feeling these blues bring to you and your next art project. First up is a new Stash Pack. I'm continuing to make more Stash Packs! These are so much fun to make and try to dream up great color and texture combinations. I love bright, happy blues reminiscent of tropical seas. That's what inspired this new Caribbean Stash Pack. Gradients Back in StockI've also gotten several Gradients back in stock this week. Each one is in keeping with the blue theme. Fabric of the WeekMany of the Gradients have coordinating Shades Packs. This one is not only coordinated with the Midnight Gradient, it's named the same. The Midnight Shades Pack is 20% off through Sunday.
Shop AnnouncementI will be away April 26 - May 1 getting inspired at the AQS Paducah quilt show (as a visitor, not a vendor). Any orders placed during that time will be shipped May 2. New Stash PackStash Packs have been extremely popular lately and I'm having to work very hard to get some back in stock. I always try to keep two green-themed packs available at all times. The most popular version is Spring Greens. Spring Greens is made of all bright, yellow-based greens reflective of early Spring foliage. This one makes me really happy! Fabric of the WeekStaying on theme, the Fabric of the Week this week is another green Stash Pack. Malachite is a collection of grayer greens and would be a great complement to Spring Greens to add a lot of green variety to your fabric collection.
I am not a gardener. I enjoy weeding and spreading mulch for the exercise and that's about it. I do love gardens and think they are beautiful, especially when someone else is doing the work. I especially love gardens full of bright flowers. For big bursts of colors you can't beat a flower bed full of Zinnias. A Zinnia seed packet was my inspiration for this new Stash Pack. Each Stash Pack has 10 fat eighths of fabrics in a variety of color combinations and color texture. I love them for scrappy style quilts but I think most people use them for elements in art quilts. You can use them any way you want! The Stash pack has 5 streaky fabrics and 5 mottled fabric. Here are larger views of 6 of the fabrics. There are so many possibilities for fussy cutting applique or landscape elements. Fabric of the WeekIt's a short newsletter this week because I only have the one new fabric. Most of my energy lately has been absorbed with custom dyed orders. I love doing custom orders and am always happy to discuss your fabric dreams with you.
This week's Fabric of the Week is the Imperial Dragon Gradient. I chose this one to stay with the color story of Zinnia. Imperial Dragon is 20% off through Sunday. There's one fabric pack that is my absolute favorite and it's Crayon Box. It's taken me a couple of week but I finally have it back in stock for you! This pack is based on the Color Wheel fabrics with an extra twist. There are 20 fabrics in this set of fat eighths (2.5 yards total). There are 10 streaky fabrics, one in each Color Wheel color. The other 10 fabrics are mottled and combine adjacent colors. For example, there's one that's half Yellow and half Yellow-Red. Another is a Green/Blue Green combo. There's one mottled fabric for every adjacent pair on the Color Wheel. This pack is not included in the Basics permanent sale price but that's simply because it's much more involved to produce. But for $45 you get 20 different fabrics! The Color Wheel fabrics are a set of Stash Packs and Shades Packs based on the 10-step Munsell Color System. I have 3 Stash packs based on this system. Each has 10 fabrics, one in each color step of the system. There are three packs: one is "full strength", one is medium value and one is light value. This week The Color Wheel Light is back in stock! You can see all of the Color Wheel fabrics in the shop. I've made several projects with the Color Wheel fabrics but the Rainbow Quilt (tutorial at the link) is one of my favorites. I made this in three sizes (king, lap and baby) but the time I was done with the fabrics. Fabric of the WeekThe Oasis Gradient is one that is loosely based on the Color Wheel colors. This week it's 20% off through Sunday! Ann Jensen used the Oasis Gradient in her Humpback Whale pillow cover. I think that you all realize that my business is a tiny business. I make and sell hand dyed fabric simply because I love doing it. I pay enough attention to know that Gradients and Stash Packs are the most popular products but beyond that I mostly dye what I'm in the mood for. But when a gradient fabric sells quickly on a regular basis I try to pay attention. That's what today is all about. These are some of the most popular gradients that I allowed to get out of stock and now they are back! Rachel Derstine used Barrier Island and Sugar Maple in her art quilt, Play on Curves. Ann Jensen used Forest Canopy for the sky and water elements in her Humpback Whale pillow cover. She used Midnight for the whale. Sandi Schadt used Monterey Bay gradient and Algae Shades Pack in her holiday wall hanging. Patricia Caldwell used Sundance for her Vitamin C art quilt. Almost all of the elements in this quilt are from the Sundance gradient! I don't have a customer project made with Salt Marsh yet but you have purchased so much of it that I expect to see a project soon! Fabric of the WeekThe fabric of the week this week is the Morning Glory gradient. It's 20% off through Sunday. Irma Lubbe used this in her art quilt, Morning Glorified. Successful quilts have good contrast. It might be color contrast but more often it's a value contrast of light and dark. Today's post is about the dark. This new Stash Pack is all about the dark shadows that are needed to make the light and bright elements stand out. This new Stash Pack was created with the shadows in mind. I wanted everything dark with bits of light shining through. Back in stock this week is the Black Gradient. This is a great way to get a sampling of shades of gray and black for several levels of shadows.
I'm very excited to share some new gradients....as well as a few restocked favorites. IntroducingCampfire is a transition from ashes (grays) to flame. The browns are all warm browns and Cinnamon is a related Stash Pack for this one. South Beach came out of my desire for winter to quickly end and Spring to get here! The colors remind me of the bright neon colors of Miami. Back in Stock! These gradients are all back in stock this week. Fabric of the WeekThe fabric of the week this week is the Cinnamon Shades Pack. It coordinates with the new Campfire Gradient featured above. Cinnamon is on sale through Sunday.
