Blockade Quilt Pattern
This quilt is based on a simple 6" block. 8 blocks in 10 rows makes a 48" x 60" quilt. It's great as a scrap quilt using 2 color groups or light and dark values. There are also several nice arrangements of light and dark blocks for a variety of looks.
The blocks:
The block is 6" finished and has 2 basic pieces
The 3 squares (Piece A) are 2.5" each (one in contrast, 2 in the main color)
The 2 larger pieces (Piece B) are 2.5" x 6.5" in the main color
Sew the 3 A square together and then add the B pieces on each long edge. Press seams toward Piece B.

Piecing:
When piecing the rows it helps to rotate alternate blocks so that the long seams alternate horizontal and vertical. This eliminates matching seams within the rows.

This one is made totally scrappy. The print blocks are batiks and the greens are hand dyed. In this case I did "match" fabrics within a block but there's a wide variety of greens and batiks.
