Regiment Quilt Pattern
The perfect blocks size for our 48" x 60" veterans quilts is 12". Any 12" block will work in this simple 4 x 5 layout. Pick a simple block and then you can have fun playing around with color placement. That's what I did with this block to make a quilt that I'm calling Regiment.
Fabric required:
Corners: 3/4 yard (blue stars)

Piecing:
Piece 1: Sew the light and dark HST pieces together to make 4 4.5" squares
Piece 2: Sew the Center and Light 4.5" pieces together along the long edge to make 4 blocks like this.
Sew two Piece 2 blocks to a Center 4.5" square to make one row like this.
Make two sets like this sewing a Piece 2 between 2 Piece 1s.
Sew those 3 units together to make the block. You will need 20 blocks for this quilt. This is a great project if you enjoy chain piecing.
Sew the blocks into 5 rows of 4 blocks to assemble the quilt.

I made this version using a Stash Pack for the centers and dark and medium hand dyed fabrics for the backgrounds.
Once you have made 1 you can really start to play with the color arrangement where you will figure out that this is simply a Churn Dash block with a different color placement pattern.
