Stars At Sea Quilt
I made Stars At Sea specifically to show off my Color Wheel collection of fabrics. It took only 1 set of Color Wheel Fat Quarters to make the quilt and that includes the binding.
The pattern is Stars At Sea from Susan Emery of Swirly Girls. I don't generally buy many patterns because most, frankly, aren't we written. But this pattern is really well done and I don't think I could have figured it out on my own. It goes together in 5 panels. |

The first step was to cut 2 strips from each fat quarter and set that aside for the binding.
The scrappy color wheel binding really makes a difference in this quilt looking "complete". I don't think a white binding would have looked good at all.
After that I cut 3 stars out of each of the 10 colors and there was enough fabric left that I was able to re-cut 3 stars that I cut wrong in the beginning.

I did not use the Creative Grid rulers that the pattern recommends. I printed cutting instructions using Electric Quilt. It's a simple Ohio Star so you could use Triangulations, EQ, or any of a number of other tools to cut the HST star points.

The backing is a lighter shade of the purple in the Color Wheel. It's quilted using the Star Swirl pantograph Wonderfil Master Quilter thread in the needle and Superior So Fine in the bobbin.
The binding is pieced from strips from the fat quarters. Before piecing the binding I laid the quilt out and arranged the binding pieces so that there isn't a place where the binding color is the same as the closest star.

This quilt was made specifically to be a booth demo quilt when I sell my fabric at shows but some day it will be someone's comfort quilt.
