The Wedding Quilt
Mom and I made this quilt for my cousin's son. After a little research I have learned that I am supposed to refer to him as my first cousin once removed and that when talking to him I am supposed to call him my nephew. Since my cousin and I are the closest thing to sisters either of us has, that seems about right.
Anyway, he and Lydia married in Albuquerque in May and I'm going to get to see them in a few weeks so this one needed to get done. I met Lydia for the first time at the wedding and, all I can say is that we are fortunate to have her in the family. She's lovely. They seem to fit together perfectly.
I designed the pattern for this specifically to be fast for Mom to construct. The center of the quilt is half square triangles and and I cut it out with the Go! Cutter. When making gift quilts I always go for easy and quick with the piecing and the quilting. I've talked about this before but I want my gift quilts to be blankets so I don't make them to be precious. I'm thinking about making this again in colors to match the guest house. The bed there could use a quilt this big.

The one special thing I did for this quilt is to design a gradient and palette based on Lydia's favorite colors. I loved it so much that I made some for the shop too.
Again, easy and relatively quick was the plan for quilting. this particular motif is based on a pantograph that I like a lot. I don't like quilting pantographs so I talked myself into quilting the swirl and feather from the front. I even added in some hearts.
I had to add a little something special in the center with a feathered heart and wreath. I used Superior Rainbow's thread throughout.
This will give you a better idea of just how big this quilt is.
I even dyed the quilt back to match and there was enough extra fabric for pillowcases.
