My last finish for 2014! This quilt is much brighter but you will just have to take my word for that.
This is one of the 3 quilt tops that I made last year during the HSTeria Quilt Along. It's all hand dyed fabrics and, aside from the border, it's all scraps and stash fabric. After I made the center I wanted it a bit larger so I dyed a border fabric that had all of the blues from the center of the quilt.

I waited to quilt this one until I got FloMo (my new Innova) and I'm glad I did. This was so much fun to quilt! I did some ruler work in the scrappy blocks and a relatively dense fill in the background. I carried the ruler work into the border to give the illusion of the diamonds going in the border.
The quilting started with ditch stitching to define the separation of the blue areas from the scrappy areas. I know a lot of people don't like to stitch in the ditch but I really believe that it's worth the effort. I used Superior Rainbows for the free motion filler and Highlights (purple) for the ruler work. In the free motion I basically used 3 motifs: swirl, eyeballs and feather fronds.
Every minute of quilting this one was a joy.

The back is another hand dyed fabric and I think the quilting shows off really nicely on it. Can I just say once more how thrilled I am with the stitch quality and tension on my Innova? It's absolutely perfect!

I'm really enjoying making Zentangle labels. This one took a long time. It doesn't quite meet the vision I had but I have so much time in it that I decided to let it go. I start by printing the text on paper. Then I do the art on the paper. Once it's done I photocopy it onto fabric.
