I'm Not a Snowflake
This year I was able to make sample quilts for Paula Nadelstern again (after a year off). I love the challenge of making small quilts from a limited palette. One of the fabric lines this year is Artful Snowflakes, a beautiful wintery blue collection of symmetry fabrics.
The quilt is simply 9 9-patch blocks where the fabric does all of the work. Each block is 12" so is drafted on a 3" grid. To draft the block yourself the little corner triangles on the outside squares intersect at the 1" mark in each 3" square.
Here are the fabrics that I used in the quilt. The stripe, called Vox, is the magical fabric. You can see how I fussy cut it for the blocks and border. I used a snowflake for the center square of each block and the 2 other prints were fussy cut for the cross elements in the block.
The border is a 1" border of the Midnight Marbella and 3.5" border of the Vox stripe. I used all of the leftover fabrics for the back which included 3 Starry Night blue and metallic silver textured prints.
