Coming Home Quilt
79 x 87As simple as it is, I do love this quilt. It's been done for a while but I was waiting to share it until it was delivered to it's new owners.I made this quilt from my Coming Home palette that was featured sometime in 2011. The piecing could not be much simpler. I let the hand dyed fabrics do all of the work in this one.
Before I finished the top I had decided to name the quilt after the fabric and call it Coming Home. That's when I knew that it would be a gift for our friends, Laura and Ian. I first met them in 2001 when I started working in London frequently. Ian and I worked on a long and painful project together for over 2 years. It turned out that our skills were very complimentary so we were able to keep ourselves relatively sane during the process. He has now been working here in the US for about 3 years and, Laura, his wife came over to stay with him. Since I am retired I've had some time to spend with Laura and get to know her. Ian is a fan of American football so we watched a lot of games together this past fall. Now it's time for them to go home and I'm sending them back with this quilt. I know they will be very happy to be home again but we will miss them a lot. I know where they live so we may arrive on their doorstep one day.

I want the quilt to be a snuggly bed quilt so I tried to avoid my usual tendency to over quilt things. I used 2 different arc rulers do do the block quilting and finally used my rope border template for the border. It was just enough quilting and I love the rope border. I've had that template at least 3 years and this is the first time I've had the nerve to use it. It turns out that it's not difficult to use at all. I used So Fine thread in the top and bobbin.
