Citrus Quilt
70" x 80"
I am so happy with this quilt! It started when I received a set of 10" squares of this line of fabric from my Secret Quilter. A few weeks later I saw a quilt similar to this one in a fabric store in Newport News, VA. I purchased the border, binding and 4-patch fabrics and then hand-dyed the back. I've seen patterns like this in a couple of places but I made mine up from a photo. I made the bars by cutting the 10" squares in half and then made 4-patch squares from 2 3/4 cur strips. The backing is hand-dyed and matches perfectly. that was pure luck! This is the first quilt that I have quilted using a flannel sheet as batting. I wanted a lighter weight quilt for summer. I didn't have any problems with the flannel sheet. You don't get the texture that you get with batting but it quilted easily. I used Superior Highlights in the needle and Bottom Line in the bobbin - both in yellow. I quilted it in Wonky Pointy flowers from the Pajama Quilter DVD. My biggest issue with free motion quilting is quilting myself into a corner. This one was great practice.
This is one of the rare quilts that I have started and finished in the same calendar year. It's a miracle!
I used it for several years as a summer quilt in the guest room but now my nephew has claimed it for himself.
