Country School Quilters Challenge Quilt
About 17" square
Country School Quilters has a member exhibit ever 2 - 3 years at the Montpelier Center for the Arts. This year we decided to have a challenge quilt exhibit to shows the variety of styles and approaches among our members.
We got 2 fat quarters of fabric and could make anything we wanted as long as it could be hung on the wall and had a perimeter no bigger than 80". You could choose a cool set (blues and greens) or a warm set. I chose warm.
I'm also the evil person who picked these fabrics. I really dislike them but I needed to find fabric on sale that came in 2 colorways and with 10 yards each. This is what I found that wasn't dull and terribly old fashioned. The bright colors will look great in the exhibit space.
Of course I had to do a kaleidoscope. I thought I was being smart to pick a pattern with relatively few pieces and honestly didn't catch that I picked a pattern with so may Y seams until I started sewing!

I wanted to get this one done so I quilted it relatively lightly (for me). After it was done I decided to add crystals to cover the points where the stitching lines meet. I'm starting another quilt that I want to use metallic on the back and used this one as practice for winding metallic on bobbins.
Of course this is my favorite side. I just noticed that stray thread as I'm typing this. The back wanted crystals too! The crystals don't stick so well on top of all those layers of thread so I used super glue to attach them. That works really well!
Every quilt I do with my Innova makes me love it more. The tension was easy to set and absolutely perfect with the metallic in the bobbin.
