Penguins On Ice Quilt
A couple of years ago I when through an exercise to try out a lot of different tied and stitched shibori samples. You can see most of them in the Shibori Gallery. I would make a few here and there and just collected them on a box. I did make sure that I dyed them all the same Cobalt color and recently figured that it was time to do something about them. I considered a more traditional quilt until I saw the Penguin Party pattern by Elizabeth Hartman. It seemed just perfect.
The pattern is excellent. The faces are a little tedious but they are worth all the effort. I don't think I've ever had more fun making a quilt.
I needed the quilt to be longer than the pattern because a 66" quilt is kind of useless. I had a stash of clamped shibori fabricsand they had enough white in them to create ice slabs for my penguins to party on.
I used the "ice" fabric for the binding too and am really happy with the breaks of blue and white in the narrow binding. The quilting is the Happy Times pantograph.
The backing is dyed the same blue in a spiral pattern. This quilt will belong to my sister-in-law, Carol.
