Almost everything I crochet is donated to charity but not this one! This one is for my nephew's daughter who will arrive in November. The parents, James and Ashley picked the colors and pattern so.hopefully, they will love it. When I got the yarn I made a swatch and washed it a few times to see how this yarn would perform and, I can say that it's going to be a really soft blanket and should hold up well to multiple washings. The blanket finished to 34" x 47" so it might be a little too big but it will be big enough for the baby and the dog to share on the floor. The details: Pattern: Even Squares Blanket from Daisy Farm Crafts except that I used half double crochet instead of the pattern stitches. I did the pattern in 4 row sets. Yarn : Brava Worsted from Knitpicks in White, Marina, Cornflower and Seashell. It was the first time using this yarn and I liked it a lot. Hook: I, 5.5mm Daisy Farm Crafts is known for their gingham and other patterns that carry two colors along on one row. You can see the blue in the white section and the white in the blue. Once you get the hang of it, it's quite an easy technique. I didn't really know what I was doing when I ordered the yarn and I seem to have some leftovers! I only used about half a ball of each color.
When we were discussing patterns, Ashley mentioned that she likes the traditional chevron pattern too so I might make a striped chevron a little smaller than this blanket. Then I can make a donation blanket with whatever is left. My Monday mailbox had a nice surprise of 2 veterans quilt tops sent by Cheryl B-J. I decided that they would be perfect to break my 2 month longarm fast. I got them loaded yesterday and half quilted. I got them quilted to the point where I could sew on the labels. This is the label we put on all of our veterans quilts. On the back they read "Made with gratitude and love."
I'll finish quilting these this morning so I can take them to quilt club tonight for someone to bind. Mom and I will hang her art this afternoon before we head to the meeting.
My Mom's move is over and she's getting settled in and today is the last day of the Moving Week giveaways. I kept with tradition and selected some of my treasured Waste Fabrics for this prize. These are strips of fabric that vary in width from 6" - 8". I use these strips when I dye gradients and they are used to absorb extra dye. The result is some of my favorite fabrics in my stash. I used a lot of these in the Big Green and the Catena quilts. Some people take umbrage at them being called "waste" fabrics. But I've always called them that and it's too late to change that now. I like the irony of my favorite fabrics being called "waste".
I hope you have found enough inspiration in the prize packages to enter each giveaway. Enter to win this one below. The winners for all of the giveaway days will be announced September 13. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
It's the 5th day of Moving Week Giveaways and today I'm bringing the Sunshine for you! These 2 streaky fabrics are each 2 yards for a total of 4 yards of fabric. I think you could have a lot of fun with these!

Welcome to the 4th giveaway of the week! Today's prize is a Purple Shades Pack that I dyed for a specific project and then changed my mind on the color. The project was the Wedding Quilt (the second quilt in the Antelope Canyon pattern). I originally planned it to use purple as the highlight with the gray fabrics but changed my mind to blue. That left me with an 8-step Shades Pack in third or half yard cuts. I don't remember the exact size but it adds up to about 4 yards of fabric! The colors isn't showing true in this photo. Trust me, it's a very pretty purple with a hint of gray.

It's Day 3 of the Moving Week Giveaways! Today's prize is a 2 yard piece of a Gray Gradient. I expect that this ended up in my stash because it didn't dye perfectly to go in the shop but it's still a really beautiful gray fabric and would be a nice background for an art quilt. It would also be good to cut in pieces for a traditional quilt.

Welcome to the second day of the Moving Week Giveaways! Today's prize has 2 "big chunks" of fabric and each one is at least a yard and a half. One is blue pleated and the other is a mottled red with splotches of blue distributed around. I love both of these fabrics but, since I haven't used them yet, it's time to give someone else an opportunity to work with them.

Welcome to my Mom's moving week! I'm going to be helping her and I know she will not want me posting her moving photos so I decided to have another giveaway this week. I picked all of these fabrics before I left for vacation in July so I don't remember the absolute specifics from some of them, but you can trust me, each package is a good one!
There's a giveaway every day so be sure to come back and enter every day. If you are a customer or newsletter subscriber you get even more chances to enter. The first package is a collection of Monday Blues. One piece is a long cut off from a hand dyed quilt back. The others are various fabrics that coordinate. I don't know the exact total yardage but I'm sure it's at least 2 yards of all hand dyed fabrics. Enter below. The winner will be announced September 13. |
