April was a great month for creativity for me. I finished 2 big projects and I think this poncho was the biggest one. I like doing crochet because it's mostly mindless but this poncho was required a lot of focus and attention. I loved every minutes of it and I can't wait for an opportunity to wear it next fall/winter. My other big finish for the month was the Oak Moth quilt. This was another project that was a blast to work on. I also got 6 veterans quilts quilted. Finally, I finished this veterans quilt yesterday and I finished the blue shawl a few days ago. Both of these are ready for donation.
My goals for April were: - finish 2 veterans quilts - finished 1, but have 2 more almost complete - finish the Oak Moth quilt, including quilting and binding -done! - quilt 6 veterans quilts - done! - finish 1 crochet project and continue the poncho and big blanket - I finished 2 - make family beach gifts - I haven't made them, but I have them planned and have all the supplies For May my goals are: - finish 2 veterans quilts - quilt a large donation quilt for my quilt club - make family beach gifts - dye fabric for the new guest room quilt (Eclipse pattern) - start a symmetry quilt My YTD stats: Quilts - 3 Veterans quilts made - 3 Donation lap quilts - 3 Veterans quilts quilted - 16 Fabric Postcards - 7 Crochet blankets - 3 Crochet shawls - 4 Garments (sewn and cochet) - 1 Cricut projects - 3 Balls of yarn used or gifted - 20

March turned out to be a pretty good month. If I go on the last 2 weeks only, I seemed to just have project in process and nothing finished but the beginning of the month was very good. For starters, I quilted 7 veterans quilts for others. This past weekend I quilted 2 more for a total of 9. The one on the left was made by Gwendolyn and the one on the right by Charlotte. I have 4 more to get done before next Tuesday. I also finished 2 quilts of my own. The one on the left is a veterans quilt and the one on the right is a baby quilt for my cousin's son and his wife. The two big projects that I have underway are my crochet poncho and the Oak Moth quilt. I'm really enjoying both projects. I also have 2 veterans quilts underway. I also had a fun afternoon making these t-shirts for a friend's birthday.
My goals for March were: - finish the baby quilt - done - plan/make some family gifts for the beach - I'm thinking about options - start a Lepidoptera quilt project, or some other new quilt project - this turned into the Oak Moth quilt - start a new veterans quilt - two are underway - crochet projects, in general - three in process, one will be finished in April. For April, I want to: - finish 2 veterans quilts - finish the Oak Moth quilt, including quilting and binding - quilt 6 veterans quilts - finish 1 crochet project and continue the poncho and big blanket - make family beach gifts Here are my YTD stats: Quilts - 1 Veterans quilts made - 2 Donation lap quilts - 3 Veterans quilts quilted - 10 Crochet blankets - 3 Crochet shawls - 3 Cricut projects - 3 Balls of yarn used or gifted - 17 For two months, I really haven't accomplished a lot. Bu given that I was on two trips and was sick for a week, I feel like I did really well. I finished one big quilt, one veterans quilt and 3 little lap quilts. I also quilted one veterans quilt. One more baby quilt will be done this week. Where I really rolled was with my crochet projects. I spent lots of days in the car, in hotels and in Tucson without a sewing machine. That was all quality crochet time. I finished one large blanket, 2 lap blankets and 3 wheelchair shawls. All of these are for donation.
My goals for March are: - finish the baby quilt - plan/make some family gifts for the beach - start a Lepidoptera quilt project, or some other new quilt project - start a new veterans quilt - crochet projects, in general One of my December goals was to finish 80+ postcards. I may 83 Christmas cards and 8 birthday cards. - Bind three veterans quilt - Quilt 6 veterans quilts - Quilt and bind the farm quilt - make pet beds On the quilting sewing front, my goals were: - Bind three veterans quilt - I did 2 - Quilt 6 veterans quilts - including my 2, I quilted 3. I just didn't have more to quilt - Quilt and bind the farm quilt - it's quilted - make pet beds - 4 pet beds made and delivered Finally I wanted to dye some t-shirts and tea towels for Christmas gifts and boy did I! I dyed 2 sweatshirts, 9 kids shirts, 6 long sleeved shirts for my brother, 4 JMU bandanas and 16 tea towels. Here are my year end stats: Quilts - 2 Veterans quilts made - 10 Veterans quilts quilted - 56 Fabric Postcards - 116 Pet Beds - 14 Quilted for others - 3 Crochet blankets - 4 Crochet shawls - 4 Crochet/loom knit hats and scarves - 24 Placemats and Table Runners - 14 Potholders - 63 Dyed shirts and towels - 29 Other Donated items - 232 Garments (sewn and cochet) - 1 Balls of yarn used or gifted - 57 The only serious goal I have for January is to finish and deliver the Fab Farm quilt. I return from my trip on January 6 and we leave 2 weeks later for a trip to Tucson. That will be another cross-country trip. I expect that my primary accomplishments for January will center around crochet. But I'm not putting any pressure on myself. Whatever gets done will be good. One final little tidbit. I keep my empty cones and spools of thread through the year in the hopes that my vast thread stash will actually reduce in size. I bought 2 cones of thread this year (blue and cream) for veterans quilts but I emptied y cones and 3 spools. So, I guess, that's something.
On the yarn front, I used or donated 57 skeins of yarn and bought 16. Not bad. I actually don't have a lot of finishes for November but I have this one late one. I hate having leftover yarn from a project so I have some corner-to-corner blankets in process that use up all of my leftovers. This one is the 4 weight yarn and I took it to the river this past weekend. We were hanging out with my friend and my very favorite dog, Ouiser. We mostly just relaxed, watched football, ate a lot of food and binge watched the Great British Bakeoff. I was able to finish this blanket. It's about 28 x 36 and is meant to be a wheelchair lap blanket. I'll let the charity decide if they think it will be OK for donation. Otherwise, they can donate it to a pet charity. The only other projects that I finished in November are one veterans quilt, one birthday postcard and 3 shawls. I quilted 3 veterans quilts because that was all we had for the month. I have a few more now to get quilted this month.
I started a lot of things that all should be done in December, including over 80 Christmas postcards that will be done this week. Here are my YTD stats: Quilts - 2 Veterans quilts made - 9 Donation lap quilts - Veterans quilts quilted - 55 Fabric Postcards - 24 Pet Beds - 9 Quilted for others - 3 Crochet blankets - 4 Crochet shawls - 4 Crochet/loom knit hats and scarves - 24 Placemats and Table Runners - 14 Potholders - 63 Dyed shirts and towels - 21 Other Donated items - 232 Garments (sewn and cochet) - 1 Balls of yarn used or gifted - 51 Here are my goals for December: - Finish 80+ postcards - Bind three veterans quilt - Quilt 6 veterans quilts - Quilt and bind the farm quilt - Dye some t-shirts and tea towels for Christmas gifts - make pet beds I felt like October wasn't terribly productive, mostly because I spent a lot of my time doing much-needed yardwork. But as I look over the month, I did accomplish enough, starting with quilting 3 veterans quilts. Thanks to football season, I got a lot of hats crocheted and used up 10 balls of yarn. I am finally out of 5 and 6 wt hat yarn. I don't plan to buy more! The big project of the month was 130 surgery drain bags for donation.
Current Stats Quilts - 2 Veterans quilts made - 8 Donation lap quilts - Veterans quilts quilted - 52 Fabric Postcards - 23 Pet Beds - 9 Quilted for others - 3 Crochet blankets - 3 Crochet shawls - 1 Crochet/loom knit hats and scarves - 24 Placemats and Table Runners - 14 Potholders - 63 Dyed shirts and towels - 21 Other Donated items - 232 Garments (sewn and cochet) - 1 Balls of yarn used or gifted - 48 Goals for November: - Quilt 6 veterans quilts - Christmas postcards - Finish 2 veterans quilt - Make pet beds It's always interesting to do my personal progress review after vacation month I sort of lose track of anything for the month in Maine and then it seems to take me another month to get back into some sort of routine. In August I got 2 veterans quilts quilted. In September I quilted 2 veterans quilts and one quilt for Mom. I finally have a few more veterans quilts ready for quilting plus a big quilt for my quilt club. Honesetly, most of what I did in August and September was to work on the Fab Farm quilt. That one is ready for quilting as soon as I dye a quilt back for it. I also did a lot of crochet while on vacation and even more since coming home. It's football season, so it's crochet season. I finished 1 baby blanket, 1 big blanket, 1 shawl and 5 hats. With that I used up 13 balls of yarn! At this rate I'll be allowed to buy yarn again in 2 years. I also made lotion, soap, a couple of postcards, 6 tea towels and finished the 63 potholders.
I also hiked and kayaked a lot and that was great. YTD Stats: Quilts - 2 Veterans quilts made - 8 Veterans quilts quilted - 45 Fabric Postcards - 21 Pet Beds - 9 Quilted for others - 2 Crochet blankets - 2 Crochet shawls - 1 Crochet/loom knit hats and scarves - 5 Placemats and Table Runners - 21 Potholders - 50 Dyed shirts and towels - 11 Other Donated items - 102 Garments (sewn and cochet) - 1 Balls of yarn used or gifted - 38 Goals for October: - Quilt 6 veterans quilts - Christmas postcards - Work on chemo drain bags - Finish a veterans quilt July was a very productive month for me! I finished 4 veterans quilts of my own. And quilted 8 for my club members! I had a fun ice dyeing day. I made 6 fabric postcards for birthday and get well wishes as my first Cricut projects. Then my young friend Ella came to visit and we learned a lot about the Cricut and made a blanket, all in 3 days! Even with all of that done, the theme of the month was potholders! I made 50 so far and have cut out 13 more. Three have been gifted and I'll take some on vacation to gift to our hosts. The rest will be for Christmas.
My YTD stats: Quilts - 2 Veterans quilts made - 8 Veterans quilts quilted - 45 Fabric Postcards - 21 Pet Beds - 9 Quilted for others - 2 Crochet blankets - 2 Crochet shawls - 1 Crochet/loom knit hats and scarves - 5 Placemats and Table Runners - 21 Potholders - 50 Dyed shirts and towels - 11 Other Donated items - 102 Garments (sewn and cochet) - 1 Balls of yarn used or gifted - 25 We will be on vacation most of August and my sewing project will be the farm quilt that I cut out in June. Before we leave I want to quilt 2 veterans quilts and finish the last 13 potholders. I also will probably do a lot of crochet in August. Maybe I can finish the 2 donation blankets and a couple of hats. As I was pulling together my June stats I realized that I forgot to share these 2 veterans quilts that I quilted last weekend. So that's 2 more for the month and brings my YTD total to 39. That doesn't include the veterans quilts that I made. One of my June goals was to quilt 6 veterans quilts and I got 8 done along with 3 of my own. All of those quilts created a lot of batting scraps and I had enough to make 3 dog beds to take to my friend Friday. These will go to Richmond Animal League. My other goals were:
- make some masculine birthday cards - I made 6 landscape cards - quilt Becky's quilt - done, and the quilt has been finished and donated to The Montpelier Center for the Arts and Education as a fundraiser - cut out the farm quilt - done and ready to take to Maine - finish 3 of my own veterans quilts - finished 1 and quilted 2 - buy a Cricut machine and learn how to use it - it's been purchased! Given that I spent most of half the month shutting down the fabric business, I'm really happy with everything I accomplished. For July I'll be focusing on learning the Cricut because I am hosting a little "craft camp" with my young friend Ella. We will be doing some Cricut tshirt designs and loop knitting a blanket for her. I'll also be getting ready for our annual trip to Maine so I will want to get as many veterans quilts done as possible so it doesn't leave Brenda overwhelmed. So, these are the goals I will set: - finish 3 veterans quilts of my own - quilt 6 veterans quilts for the quilt club - learn the Cricut and make some postcards and other things with it YDT stats Quilts - 2 Veterans quilts made - 4 Donation lap quilts - Veterans quilts quilted - 37 Fabric Postcards - 9 Pet Beds - 7 Quilted for others - 2 Crochet blankets - 2 Crochet shawls - 1 Crochet/loom knit hats and scarves - 5 Placemats and Table Runners - 21 Dyed shirts and towels - 11 Other Donated items - 102 Garments (sewn and cochet) - 1 Balls of yarn used or gifted - 17 Even with one week of vacation, I had a good month of May. My goals were: bind the blue quilt to deliver at family beach week on the 18th' - quilt 6 veterans quilts - make some new postcards - tie dye some shirts for my brother's grandkids and I finished all of them. First to share are the 6 veterans quilts that I quilted in May. The big finish of the month was the Big Blue Quilt that I made for my SIL. I gifted it to her at the beach and she loved it. At least, she said she did! I also finished two of my own veterans quilts. I also tie dyed some shirts for my little friend Eli, dyed and screen printed shirts for my brother, finished a donation baby blanket and made some Magic Mushroom postcards.
The accountant in me loves statistics so here are the YTD counts: Quilts - 1 Veterans quilts made - 3 Veterans quilts quilted - 29 Fabric Postcards - 9 Pet Beds - 7 Quilted for others - 1 Crochet blankets - 2 Crochet shawls - 1 Crochet/loom knit hats and scarves - 5 Placemats and Table Runners - 21 Dyed shirts and towels - 11 Other Donated items - 102 Garments (sewn and cochet) - 1 Balls of yarn used or gifted - 14 My goals for June are: - make some masculine birthday cards - quilt Becky's quilt - quilt 6 veterans quilts - cut out the farm quilt - finish 3 of my own veterans quilts - buy a Cricut machine and learn how to use it |
