Here I was worried that I'd have nothing to share this week and my best friend comes through for me. I am feeling better but, according to my doctor, this is a 14 day virus. My energy is coming back but the normal cold symptoms hang on ....and on...and on. Plus I have the laryngitis that I always get with these colds. Anne asked me to help her with the binding on her quilt so she came over yesterday and I whispered instructions so she could finish this very cute quilt. She made this for her husband for his 50th birthday. Anne works pretty much non-stop so I'm very happy for her that she was able to get this finished before his birthday this weekend. She made the whole thing from stash fabric too. He will love it because it's purple and soft and snuggly! She took it to Virginia Longarm quilting and they had a perfect quilting design with words of love all over. Even some Xs and Os to go with the blocks. Perfect!
The fabric of the week this week is the Cranberry Shades Pack and it's on sale 20% off through Sunday! Shades Packs are dyed when ordered so there's no limit to what you can buy. If you order multiple quantities it comes as one cut. For example, order 2 quantities for 1/2 yard cuts. Orders received by Wednesday morning (EST) will be shipped November 13. Orders placed after Wednesday morning will be shipped November 20. New Gradient - Imperial Dragon! This is a bright new gradient with color ranging from deep gold, through orange and red and then to red-purple.
If you follow me on Facebook you have probably figured out that I generally do my blog posts ahead of time. I like to be a few days ahead just in case something happens. Like last week. I believe that the flu has arrived in Virginia because I was sick all week and it wasn't a normal cold. But, then, with my immune system, who knows. Normally last week I would have been working on the things that I would be posting abut this week. But I didn't do much of anything last week. I did start and work on the 3rd (and last!) of my ornament kits. I only got this far because I ran out of one of the ribbons and you really can't work on these ornaments out of order. I expect that the new ribbon will arrive to day or tomorrow and I could get this last one wrapped up this week.
I do hope I can finish up some postcards that I started over a week ago so that will be something. But if I skip a day this week, don't worry. One I get some additional meds today I should recover pretty quickly. Patricia Caldwell is back this week with another beautiful art quilt. I love how effectively she combines hand dyed and batik fabrics. For this one she used the Nightfall Gradient. This gives me a great opportunity to share Vibrational Symmetry again. This is another quilt that Patricia made with the Nightfall Gradient last year. If yo have made anything with my hand dyed fabric I hope you will consider sharing it in the Customer Gallery. In appreciation you will receive a 20% shop coupon that's good for 3 months! Quilt Market has happened and Paula Nadelstern's new fabric is out so now I can share my quilts! I have one for today and one for next Friday. Paula's new fabric line is called Wonderlust and you can see all of the fabrics here. Cotton Club is taking pre-orders here. When I make quilts using Paula's fabrics I rarely use the mandalas or the background fabrics. This year I challenged myself to focus on those specifically. This quilt could not have been simpler to make. The pattern is the Moon Over The Mountain block. A friend made a MOTM quilt several years ago and that block has always stuck with me. She made hers with hand dyed fabrics before I ever dyed my first piece of fabric. The moon and the mountain are fused and machine appliqued with a zig zag stitch! Each block is 12" and I used 3 of the Marbella colors for, of course, a gradient effect Each mandala panel has 3 designs and there are 3 colorways. Each colorways is represented in a row and each mandala design is a column. I think it shows off the mandalas really well and I had this together in 2 evenings. You can see in the first detail shot that the quilting is straight lines with metallic thread. Of course I had to have a Zentangle label!
Now, for the name. I told you that I made 2 quilts and I like referencing the fabric line name in the quilt make. This one uses the word "lust". You've got a week to think about why I named this quilt "Beware of Lust". The first person to figure it out will win a little prize. I'll explain it next Friday when I share the second quilt. I told you that I was on a roll with postcards! These are really similar to the kitty postcards. As with the kitty cards I started with a sunprinted stencil image and hand dyed velvet for the background. Before I go into how I made these let just admit here that, yes, these would have been easier to simply stencil with paint than sunprint. But I was in sunprinting mood this summer so that's what happened. I could see stenciling these with different colors of paint for a totally different look. These cards definitely needed something other than the cake slapped on the background. I started with ribbon and thought about yellow to highlight the candle flames. But, this is pertty lame. Angelina fibers seemed like a good idea but "blech"! There we go! I needed to stick with the cartoon nature of the cake image. I had a prefused piece of greenish yellow fabric and there was just enough to cut candlelight for all 10 cakes! First I fused and stitched the candlelight and then fused and stitched the cake. They are finished off with a simple serged dark purple edge.
I love them. |
