Yes, I have a second post of marbles this week! I have 90 small marbles and 19 large marbles. With this 6 I have 36 of the 90 small marbles done or 40% of the small marbles. Let's get to it. Remember a couple of weeks ago when I cut my new Indonesian batiks into a quilt kit? Well, these were the leftover scraps and they've been on my swing table ever since just waiting for a home. I finally couldn't take it anymore. I knew that they needed to be matched up with some other fabrics and I was determined that it would not involve dyeing or buying new fabric. No surprise, I have a drawer full of green dyed fabrics and I pulled out as many as I could find that went with greens in the batiks. Every batik has at least one green in it. Now I needed a plan so it was off to play in EQ. I wanted it to be something simple and thought I might be able to do something based on 2.5" strips. Here are the 2 ideas that I eventually landed on. I expect that I will do the one on the left. So I started cutting all of the scraps into as many 2.5" strips as I could. I'm not far enough along to have any idea how big the quilt will be. I'll make as many blocks as I can and it might be only big enough for a veterans quilt. I'm cool with that. Then I matched up a green with each fabric and paired them. I didn't cut the green fabrics yet. I can do that whenever I get around to working on this project. There were small scraps left over and, of course, I kept them too! They are on the bottom of the bin with the strips and greens and then the 2 quilt layouts printed off. I got that pile of scraps in this one bin and now I have FOUR travel sewing projects. That might be overkill but I'm OK with it and at least these fabrics are out of my way and I can work on the project that I want to work on here at home. More about that one later.
I hope you don't mind seeing the quilted marbles because there are a total of 119 of them! I'm also not the fastest quilter in the world....because I get distracted. But I will eventually get all of them quilted. Here are 6 more. 18 segments (ignore the reference to the Circleliner, This one was the Tri-Liner). I extended the markings to a 1" circle in the center and quilted with a 5.5" circle ruler. Starting at the tip of a petal I quilted to next line over on at the center circle and then to the next line over at the edge, continuing all the way around. 14 segments. This one is confusing to follow and explain. I stated with 2 points opposite of each other, look where the ruler arrow points for the starting point. I stitched 2 petals to the left and to the right of that point then I stitched straight across the circle and did the same from that point. Next I marked in between those 2 on the opposite edges and did the same. That may not make sense and it's possible that I wouldn't be able to duplicate it! Shipping schedule noticeI'm leaving in a couple of days to help my Mom move. She's sold her house and is moving to an apartment closer to me. We like to do things together so it's going to be great to have her close by. Plus my quilt club is much better than the one she's leaving! It's bigger (but not too big) and a lot more active....but I might be biased. But, this being a business with only one employee, it means that I will not be shipping between Thursday, April 5 and Tuesday April 10. I also will not be able to dye custom orders for 2 weeks. If you need to get something scheduled for dyeing you can contact me. I'll be checking and responding to messages, but just unable to actually work. I hope this doesn't cause too many problems. Black is a difficult color to get in hand dyed fabric. There used to be a wonderful blended black dye produced by Dharma Trading that was fantastic and then one of the ingredients was no longer available. The dyeing world panicked and most commercial dyers do not dye black or grays. There are other blended blacks available and I tried them all but none of them dye solid black and also shades of gray. So I spent a year blending samples to get my own black and finally hit the jackpot with sample #64. This is that black and it's on sale this week while supplies last. Black is sold by the yard and it's on sale 20% off through Sunday or while supplies last. Other fabric newsStash packs contain 10 (TEN) Fat Eights of hand dyed cotton fabric. These are great for artists that work with smaller sizes of fabrics or those who want to build a nice variety of hand dyed fabrics. Each piece of fabric is approximately 9” x 20”. Each pack is based on a color theme although the fabrics are not intended to match. Autumn Green is a theme that remains popular and now it's back.
