It's Done!!!

The Goldfinch 30" x 40"

This is the last time you have to see this quilt because it's officially done! It even has a hanging sleeve. I'll get a label on it this weekend and it will be ready for the exhibit in September.

All of the history and details are on the Goldfinch page but I'll share a few notes/observations:

• I was really undecided about binding vs facing but, thanks to timely observations from Wanda and Gene, I realized they were right and I had to do a binding. It was also easier!
• I am very glad that I made this quilt to try out the patterns but I don't think I'd do another one. The designs are spectacular but there are too many places where seams bome together with too much bulk. They need to study Judy Niemeyer patterns and see if they can make some technical design adjustments to address that......just my humble opinion.
• The weekend choosing the fabrics was a blast.
• The piecing, while tedious, was a lot of fun. I do love some tedious piecing! I might be ready for another Judy Niemeyer quilt after I quilt the one I made last year.
• Denim for batting worked even better than I expected. The finished quilt looks like a tapestry and really keeps the focus on the pieced design. I need to keep that in mind for future wall hanging quilts.
• I've decided to list this one for sale at the exhibit and, honestly, I hope it sells to raise some money for the Montpelier Center. I'm glad I made it but I'm not very attached to it. It was a great experience, like attending a really good class but I don't need to keep the class sample. If it doesn't sell, I'll find it a great home.

This weekend I need to get a sleeve on one more small quilt and labels on 3 quilts for the exhibit. Then I need to cut 4 hanging rods. Once that's all done these quilts will be ready for the September show.
