Quilting progress

Yay! The blocks are quilted! I finished the last 6 star blocks yesterday and today I'll move on to the floral border. I expect it's going to involve feathers. Whatever I do, it will not show.

The only other thing I accomplished yesterday was blowing more leaves. That will be a daily chore for the next few weeks. We have 10 trees over 50' tall in the yard and they drop massive amounts of leaves. I work at it a little each day and eventually I'll have a 4' wall of leaves at the edge of the woods.

This weekend is about watching football (crocheting), quilting and sewing blue blocks and that's about all.

The quilt is beautiful - love blue and yellow together. Wow - that's a lot of leaves, bet y'all enjoy some gorgeous colors before they fall. We're in a townhouse community with lots of trees, but I only have to deal with the ones that fall on our two courtyards. Autumn is my favorite season, the reward after surviving a hot summer. We're going to have our first really cold temps and possible snow his coming week. It means our first fire in the kiva and a cup of hot chocolate to celebrate.

About those leaves: I've seen several articles lately that tout the advantages of leaving the leaves on the ground or just mowing over them to mulch them. They have nutritional benefits for the grass and soil. I remember endless hours of raking at our house in St. Louis. If I still lived there, I'd do one of the two options I just mentioned.

On another note - did you ever hike the Cascades when you went to Tech? I hiked there several times, including once in the winter when they were frozen over (I do not know how in the world I managed that). This was 50+ years ago (scary thought). Well, on Thursday I decided to go hiking there. I just had to get out in the woods and commune with nature after all of the terrible things going on in the world. So, slightly overweight, terribly out of shape, bad knees and asthma, I almost made it. I think I was 1/2 - 1/4 mile away. It was 5:30 and I decided that at the slow rate I was moving, I better head back. In my condition, I would rate this hike extremely strenuous! It was a fabulous day and the trail was pretty, especially the creek.

I really like the blues and yellows together. Makes me think of a china pattern.
What happens to your wall of leaves when you're finished piling them? Do they mulch down over the winter?
